The Old Corner Bar
The old building was erected in 1929 just about the time Highway 66 was paved in St. James, Missouri. The business was first owned and operated by John and Mabel Rose who called it Rose Cafe. Later, it was to include a Greyhound bus ticket office, liquor store, grocery store, and other cafes.
John Bullock, a St. James native, rented the building in April 1960, and converted it into a tavern called Johnnie's Bar. Johnnie eventually bought the property from the Rose family. In later years, Johnnie's sons, Russ, Rick, and Terry, ran the bar most of the time for the old man. The reins were handed down to Russ and his wife, Tina, in 1998. With Russ's passing in 2018, Tina renovated and recently reopened the bar, bringing cold drinks and delicious food to the St. James community once again.
